Your information and choices

AreUok privacy policy

Updated 3 November 2026

AreUok helps families share check-ins and optional device information. This policy explains what the iPhone app and its care service use, who can see it, and the choices you have.

Information we use

When you create an account, Clerk handles sign-in using your email address or Sign in with Apple. AreUok uses your account identifier, the name and role you choose, and your optional portrait preference to provide your profile.

The care service stores family memberships, invitations, sharing choices, check-in schedules, familiar places, check-ins, Help requests and family responses. If you enable the relevant sharing, it also receives location reports with precise coordinates and accuracy, observed route points and phone battery reports, including their report times and device source.

Device notification tokens are used to send care alerts and update widgets. The app also keeps local settings, recent care information, widget information and unsent requests on your device so these features can work between connections.

Your sharing choices

Joining a family does not by itself give everyone access to your location, battery or check-ins. You choose the information to share with named family members in Family sharing. Route sharing also depends on your saved route choices. Help requests and family responses are used to coordinate support with the people authorised for those care features.

Location collection also needs iPhone location permission. Background updates depend on the permission you allow and iOS. Notification permission controls whether iOS can show alerts. You can review these permissions in iPhone Settings and change sharing choices inside AreUok.

Withdrawing sharing restricts future access through AreUok. It cannot take back information someone has already viewed, copied or received in a notification. Check-ins are self-reports; location and the absence of alerts do not establish safety.

Services that help run AreUok

Cloudflare runs the care API and stores care records in D1. Clerk provides account authentication. Apple provides Sign in with Apple, maps through MapKit, and push delivery through Apple Push Notification service (APNs). These providers process information needed for their services under their own privacy terms.

Map features request map content from Apple. Push notifications can contain a person's name, a care event or a familiar-place label. Notification previews may be visible on a device's Lock Screen according to that device's settings.

AreUok does not use advertising SDKs or sell your care information. We use the information described here to provide accounts, family sharing, care updates and the operation of the service.

How long information is kept

Observed route points are limited to the previous 24 hours. The service's scheduled cleanup removes older route points. Care events are normally removed after 30 days. Events linked to an open incident are kept while it is open and for 30 days after it is resolved. Cleanup runs periodically, so removal is not instant at the time limit.

Profiles, family and sharing settings, familiar places, and the latest location and battery reports are not covered by the 30-day event cleanup. They can remain until you change or delete them, replace a report, or delete your account. Local caches and unsent requests can remain on your device between connections; signing out is not the same as deleting your account.

Deleting your account

Use Delete my account data in the app's Settings to request removal of your sign-in and associated care records. An internet connection is needed. If sign-in deletion cannot finish immediately, the service records the request and retries it; the app should not describe an unfinished deletion as complete.

A minimal deletion record containing an account identifier and deletion times may remain to stop delayed requests recreating deleted care data and to track completion. It does not contain your name, contact information, location or care history. A family and other members' own records can remain when another member still belongs to it.
